Real questions, real talk. We get a lot of questions, and you deserve honest answers. Here are a few commonly asked questions.

What is unique about what CIC offers students?

CIC offers a diversity in coursework that balances rigorous college-prep academics and real elective options*. We aim to create well-rounded students by giving students the flexibility in scheduling to explore different courses.

Program flexibility benefits our many CIC students who are also elite athletes and/or performers and are counting on their extracurricular pursuits to be a part of their whole college package. In addition to greater flexibility in scheduling, CIC is the only program that offers Asian languages in Long Beach. Our international focus offers students opportunities for travel and immersion, interacting with foreign students and learning about different cultures. Instead of simply focusing on “resume-building,” students in CIC focus on building themselves into university candidates that can be measured by more than a mere GPA.

*real electives - while there are many academic electives available to students, such as AP Psychology, AP Econ/Govt, etc, we actively encourage our students to participate in the performing arts, student government, and other electives like speech & debate or journalism.

How are CIC and PACE different?

Choice of schools comes down to the right fit for the student. PACE and CIC are designed for different kinds of kids. Some students thrive in PACE’s AP rich and academically competitive classrooms.

In CIC you may choose to opt into the same number of AP classes as your PACE friends, but you also may not! CIC is for college bound students who are still developing their academic profile and their interests.

CIC is for students who value a diversity of experience and background in their classes and for those looking to strike a balance between developing as a scholar and developing as an athlete / performer.
